So we have learnt yesterday that the gospel of peace gives us stability in our hearts, even when we encounter people with the most unloveable attitudes. We don’t seem to care really, it does not affect us like it used to affect us, but it’s not like we are the most lovable all the time either, right? So while we were sinners and living in the dark, he forgave us. Christ loved us enough to bridge the gap between us and his father. He came and preached peace to you when you were far away, and peace to those who were near. So how dare we not extend the same grace to others that do unlovable acts against us? Forgiving them just as he has forgiven us. That is where the Peace OF God comes in.
Having the Peace OF God is not about going to heaven and escaping hell, its about being empowered on earth. That is certainly to me the most extraordinary benefits of being in a relationship with God. The peace WITH God establishes a relationship with him, and as a result we experience the Peace OF God. That is what makes PEACE a legitimate option for us right now on earth .
Remember the fruit of the spirit you wrote in your circle the 1st day? In my eyes the job of the spirit is to empower you to develop all those fruits in your life on a daily basis. That means the Peace OF God is already inside you like the Imputed Righteousness, you must just know how to develop it. Your task is to make sure it does not lay dormant, and become unappreciated. You must CHOOSE to activate it in your life.
But how? How do we put on the shoes of peace? Let’s take a walk through 2 scriptures that will help us understand how to apply the shoes.
STEP 1 – First, go the Philippians 4:6 – 7 in your bible answer in your Prayer Journal, “What causes the Peace OF God to guard your heart in a way that surpasses all comprehension?”.
STEP 2 – Now turn to Colossians 3:15, which shows peace as your guide. What do you think is the last command given in this verse? Write this down in your Prayer Journal.
STEP 3 – Finally, turn to Isaiah 26:3 – 4, please fill in the blanks in your Prayer Journal:
The mind he keeps “perfect peace” is the one that …………………….. on Him, because it ………………….. in Him. Since the Lord God is an “everlasting rock” we can ………………….. forever.
The above 3 steps’ passages are entangled together. When we CHOOSE thankful prayer (step 1) over wallowing in anxiety and worry, we are demonstrating an unwavering trust in God. Prayer wrapped in gratitude expresses a firm faith. That means, we are saying “God I CHOOSE to concentrate on YOU and not my circumstances”, because then we believe that he is able to overcome and override any circumstances. This kind of faith catches his attention, and his response is the activation of peace within us.
When God sees the type of prayerful, grateful faith and when our minds are so fixed on him, the Peace OF God expands within us. It stabilizes our emotions, centres your mind, guides your footsteps and even overflows into our experiences with others.
This is how we put on the shoes – We TRUST and EXPRESS gratitude, and then only do we experience the peace that surpasses all understanding.
